During a stint at Ogilvy, me and my partner back then, Ruben Cirugeda, made two campaigns for Ego Pharmaceuticals – one for Sunsense sunscreen and the other for QV moisturiser.
We gave the Sunsense campaign the working title, Nosferatu in Reverse.
One cool idea was to make a billboard with a shaded frame over the top with Nosferatu’s hand cut out. As the sun moved through the day, his hand would get closer and closer to the sunbather.
And it actually worked! The outdoor Nosferatu shadow ambient billboard went live on the Monash Freeway and the freeway near the Sydney airport for a month of summer 2014/2015.
